The full story
The Saddle is a bag with two lives. John Galliano designed it in 1999 and it became the it-bag of the early 2000s; Maria Grazia Chiuri revived it in 2018 and, for about three years, a new Saddle was the hardest Dior to buy and resold above retail. That premium is gone — the revival Saddle now trades at a normal designer discount — while the vintage Galliano-era originals have their own collector market and, in the right print, can be worth more than a new one.
For a revival Saddle the version matters: Oblique canvas (the reference), calfskin in various colours, embroidered and seasonal editions, and the strap versions (the original 2018 Saddle came without a shoulder strap; strap versions and the later Saddle with strap are priced separately). For a vintage Saddle, the print and condition are everything.

Questions
Why is my Dior Saddle worth less than I paid?
The 2018 revival created a resale premium for a couple of years, and that has passed as the bag became widely available and the trend cooled. It's still a liquid bag, priced now as a designer piece at a discount to retail.
Are the vintage Galliano Saddles worth more than new ones?
In the rare prints and in good condition, they can be — they're collector pieces, and the newspaper, rasta, and other iconic prints command real premiums. Common vintage versions in worn condition are priced modestly.
Does a personalised Saddle sell?
Yes, but for less — an embroidered name limits the buyer pool. Un-personalised bags are worth more to the next owner.
