What moves the price
- 01
Mainline vs. Essentials is the whole question — check the label; Essentials says so on the rubber or embroidered logo.
- 02
Essentials core colorways were produced in volume and resell at or below retail; only limited colorways and early seasons carry a premium.
- 03
Early mainline collections (Second–Fifth) are the collector tier; later mainline holds a solid share of retail but no premium.
- 04
The adidas Athletics line is priced on its own market, closer to sneakers than to mainline clothing.
- 05
Condition: heavyweight fleece pills and the rubber Essentials logo cracks — both are checked in photos.
- 06
Authentication for mainline: the woven labels, the wash tag, and the collection numbering; Essentials is counterfeited heavily.

The full story
Fear of God is two markets under one name. Essentials — the diffusion line sold in huge volume through PacSun and Fear of God's own drops — is the most-worn streetwear line of the last few years, and precisely because it's everywhere, it resells at or below retail: a used Essentials hoodie is a $50–80 item. Mainline Fear of God (the numbered 'Collections', the Athletics line with adidas from 2023, and the early Jerry Lorenzo collections that built the brand) is luxury-priced and holds a much larger share of retail.
The pieces that carry real value are the early mainline collections (Second through Fifth, roughly 2014–2017) that established the brand's look — the long tees, the bomber jackets, the denim — and limited collaborations. For Essentials, the only versions that resell above retail are specific limited colorways and the earliest seasons; the standard core colorways were produced in such volume that a clean used piece is worth less than a new one on sale.
A general starting point — mainline pieces and early collections sit above it, Essentials well below it. Scan yours in Cashd for an item-specific estimate.
Used (eBay listings): the Fear of God averaged $45 on Sep 11 and $48 on Oct 16, so prices rose 5.6% over 36 days of tracking. The lowest daily median was $40 (Sep 18) and the highest $60 (Sep 29).
Questions
Is Fear of God Essentials worth reselling?
Only marginally — it was produced in enormous volume, and a used core-colorway hoodie sells for well under retail. It's an easy sale on Depop or eBay, but not a resale piece unless it's a limited colorway or an early season.
Which Fear of God holds value?
Early mainline collections (the numbered Second through Fifth, 2014–2017) and limited collaborations. Current mainline holds a solid share of retail; Essentials doesn't.
How do I tell mainline from Essentials?
Essentials is branded as such — the rubberised or embroidered 'ESSENTIALS' logo and a label that says Fear of God Essentials. Mainline carries the Fear of God name alone with a collection reference on the label and is cut and priced as luxury clothing.
