What moves the price
- 01
Model within the line — a Fifty-Eight and a Black Bay 41 are priced differently despite similar looks; the GMT and Chrono are their own markets.
- 02
Bracelet vs. strap: Tudor sells most Black Bays on a steel bracelet, a fabric strap, or leather at different prices, and the used price follows the configuration.
- 03
In-house vs. ETA: post-2015 in-house movements are the modern standard; the ETA originals are valued for being first, not for the movement.
- 04
Box and papers (and the warranty card) add a premium, though a smaller one than on Rolex — Tudor's authentication risk is lower.
- 05
Tudor doesn't carry a resale premium over retail — price from used comps, and expect the Fifty-Eight to hold the most.
- 06
Bezel insert and case condition: aluminium inserts on Black Bays scratch, and the polished case sides show wear; unpolished examples are preferred.

The full story
The Black Bay is the line that made Tudor a brand people collect, and it's also the reason 'a Tudor' has no single price: the Black Bay Fifty-Eight (39mm) and the Black Bay 41 are the core divers, but the name also covers the GMT (the Pepsi-bezel one), the Chrono, the Pro (the fixed-bezel GMT), the Black Bay 54, the Bronze and Ceramic versions, and the original 2012–2015 ETA-movement Black Bays that started it all.
On resale, Black Bays follow the Tudor pattern: they sell readily but below retail, because Tudor is easier to buy new than Rolex. The Fifty-Eight holds the largest share of its retail — it's the most wanted reference — and the GMT and Chrono are close behind. The first-generation ETA models (references 79220, in burgundy, blue, and black) have a following as the originals, especially the 2012 burgundy 'Red', and are priced on that history rather than on the newer in-house movements.
Used (eBay listings): the Tudor Black Bay averaged $3,800 on Sep 11 and $3,995 on Oct 16, so prices rose 5.1% over 36 days of tracking. The lowest daily median was $3,625 (Sep 25) and the highest $4,049 (Oct 15).

Questions
Which Black Bay holds value best?
The Fifty-Eight — it's the most wanted reference and holds the largest share of its retail on resale, followed by the GMT and the Chrono. The standard Black Bay 41 is plentiful and trades lower relative to retail.
Are the original ETA Black Bays worth more than the in-house ones?
Not in general, but they hold their own — collectors value the 2012–2015 originals as the first Black Bays, and the burgundy 'Red' in particular trades on that history. A Fifty-Eight still sells higher than most ETA models.
Does a Black Bay sell above retail like a Rolex?
No — Tudor is available at retail without waitlists for most models, so used Black Bays sell at a discount. A few limited editions and the bronze models have had brief premiums, but the line as a whole is a value buy used.
